The Chalet, which had operated as a Dance hall since 1933, became the Sands in the mid 70's and became the venue for a weekly Sunday afternoon Jazz session, which ran till 1985.
The resident band had a core of Jimmy Deuchar - Trumpet/Flugelhorn, Jim Lyons - Drums, Gerry Culley - Piano, Dave Fimister - Trumpet and Andy Nicoll - Trombone, all of whom were active promoters of Jazz via the Tayside Jazz Action Group. The core band were joined by various Bassists eg Ron Dunn, Ron Elder, Phil Chapman, Rab Adams and John Hartley, Percussionists Graeme Joy and Don Smith and Guitarists Kevin Murray and Laurie Hamilton.
